Promising New Teacher

Promising New Teacher

We are thrilled to share that La Retraite teacher Iona, has achieved the Lambeth’s Most Promising Teacher Award.

Iona has been an invaluable addition to the Creative Arts department. We have been so impressed by her dedication to all students, of all ages and abilities who have embraced her kind, calm and encouraging nature. As a department, we have enjoyed seeing improved outcomes from the students which is a direct result of her meticulous planning and preparation. Her examples are inspiring, as they not only reflect her artistic talent but also encourage students to develop their own artistic skills and to take Creative risks in a positive way. She has led booster sessions and is available for students' afterschool and lunchtime to work in Creative Arts outside of their lessons.

Iona has been instrumental in building a more varied and relevant curriculum within the Arts, particularly with Year 8 Architecture and Year 12 Construction projects, utilizing her degree and industry experience in Architecture to help inform students about the Creative industries on offer. She has excellent knowledge of computer aided programs such as sketch up and has imparted this knowledge to the rest of the team, sharing good practice.

Iona has built a great rapport with staff and is a highly regarded member of the team. Her quiet determination and her commitment to the department and school is much appreciated and a real strength on her part. Iona has been team teaching Year 11 and Year 10 but is already proving capable of being able to teach independently and lead the GCSE and A level courses confidently. Iona shows huge potential both within the department and in a more managerial role.

As a result, Iona has been awarded £2,000 to spend on a project within the Creative Arts Department. Congratulations!
