La Retraite Year 9 showcased their talent and resilience in the Lambeth Schools' U14 Football Tournament held at Ferndale, Brixton, on Wednesday, 10th May 2023. Fourteen teams from various schools participated in the highly anticipated 7-aside competition. Despite facing an initial setback, La Retraite's U14 team, comprising of Kimaya, Louise Myra, Amaiya, Julie, Quaisi-Ann, and Anna, rose above their nerves and displayed an outstanding performance throughout the tournament, ultimately securing victory.

In their opening game, La Retraite played with some tentativeness, as nerves seemed to overcome them. They faced a formidable opponent in Streatham and Clapham High School, who managed to secure a 3-1 victory. However, the defeat only fuelled the team's determination to bounce back stronger.

Guided by the encouraging words and tactical expertise of their coach, Mr. Edaferhoro, the La Retraite U14 players exhibited unwavering determination in their subsequent matches. With a renewed sense of purpose, they dominated the pitch and emerged victorious in all of their remaining games, showcasing their exceptional skill and teamwork.

After a series of impressive victories, fate led them back to face their initial adversaries, Streatham and Clapham High School, in the tournament finals. The rematch proved to be a testament to La Retraite's growth and resilience. The U14 team exhibited true grit and determination as they fought tooth and nail on the field, leaving everything on the pitch.

With Kimaya's exceptional goalkeeping skills, Louise , Myrai, Amaiya, Julie, Quaisi-Ann, and Anna's tenacity, La Retraite managed to outshine Streatham and Clapham High School, ultimately emerging as the champions of the Lambeth Schools' U14 Football Tournament. The final score reflected their unwavering effort and determination, solidifying their position as the top team in the tournament.
