La Retraite Choir takes on Paris

As we come to the end of the school year, the Summer term has been very busy with various activities, trips and events.

We are delighted to share with you the incredible adventures of the Tour Choir during their trip to the enchanting city of Paris. Departing in the early hours of July 4th, at the crack of dawn, our intrepid singers embarked on a memorable journey aboard a coach. The eight-hour ride to Paris left our pupils exhausted, but their spirits were instantly rejuvenated as they arrived at their hotel just outside the city. The tour began with a magnificent river cruise, allowing students to soak in the breathtaking sights of Paris. As the boat glided along the Seine, they marvelled at the iconic Eiffel Tower and the renowned Musée d'Orsay. Our talented choir members had the privilege of showcasing their vocal skills at the magnificent Church of Saint-Étiennedu-Mont. The performance featured a diverse repertoire, including moving, renditions of "The Lord is my Shepherd" and "Rhythm of Life." The highlight of the concert was the captivating composition titled "Veni Creator Spiritus" specially composed for our choir by our talented accompanist Mr Brice. In addition to their fantastic performances and the enchanting river cruise, our Tour Choir embarked on an extraordinary adventure to the Montparnasse Tower. Ascending an impressive 60 floors, our pupils were treated to a spectacular bird's-eye view of the entire city of Paris. From this lofty vantage point, they marvelled at the sprawling beauty of the cityscape. It was a truly awe-inspiring moment that will forever be etched in their memories.

On the final day in Paris, the group gathered at Square du Temple park to deliver a final performance encompassing both secular and sacred music. The atmosphere was filled with the harmonious melodies created by our talented singers, as they captivated the audience with their beautiful voices. Despite a slight delay at the channel crossing, we made our way back to the UK and finally arrived at the school, albeit a little weary, at 2 AM Both staff and pupils alike cherished every moment of this unforgettable trip. The Tour Choir's journey to Paris was an incredible opportunity for our talented students to showcase their musical abilities while immersing themselves in the rich culture and vibrant spirit of the City of Light. As they all reflect on the remarkable experience, and eagerly anticipate the next adventure that awaits our Tour Choir. Until then, au revoir!
