Catching Up with the Girls Network

Over the last few months, a group of students have been engaging in the Girls Network. The Girls Network’s mission is to inspire and empower girls from the least advantaged communities, by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional role models who are women.

Our students have now reached month 4 of the programme and have been investigating topics with their mentors including becoming an independent woman; being a changemaker; confident communication and courageous leadership, in addition to revision tips, the world of work and positive wellbeing.

Ike and her mentor visited the Africa Fashion exhibition at the V&A over the summer holidays. Her mentor has described her as passionate and capable; and they are currently working to create ways to stay organised at school this year.

Maryam has shown an interest in her mentor's job as a Consultant and is looking at what employability skills she has and how these can be further developed. Her mentor has praised Maryam for her ability to identify the qualities she's most proud of and what makes her unique.

Amirah has been discussing positive wellbeing with her mentor, identifying the areas of support she has around her. She is keen to get organised this year and is working with her mentor to find what systems and processes would work well for her. Her mentor has commended her ability to communicate honestly what she needs.

Natoria has been creating SWOT analyses on the goals she set with her mentor at the beginning of the programme. While initially unsure about areas of opportunity, Natoria was able to independently identify what opportunities existed for her and did so with a lot of insight.

Our students are doing incredibly well with their mentors throughout the sessions, and we congratulate them for their efforts. We look forward to catching up with them again soon to find out more about what they have been getting up to!
