Tuesday 16 December 2025 Leyland Big School Makeover A big thanks to everyone who voted or us in the Leyland Big School Makeover competition. We are pleased to announce that we came second place winning us £2,500 to spend at Leyland. One idea for how this money can be spent is creating a prayer garden that will be designed for the students and provide a calming and reflective space for them. We look forward to sharing how we put this money to use and are grateful to the people who helped us.

Wednesday 19 November 2025 Alumni Cynthia Erivo Visits La Retraite We were thrilled to welcome Cynthia Erivo, one of our talented alumni, back to La Retraite to perform the new Wicked Movie song 'For Good' with our choir. Her visit was a truly inspiring experience for our students, highlighting the importance of resilience, creativity, and self-belief.

Friday 17 October 2025 T Level Construction Students Secure Funding from Berkeley Group Our students have successfully secured £104 of funding from Berkeley Group, with a further £100 available upon completion of their business plan.

Friday 19 September 2025 Autism Awareness Film Project with Lambeth Council We are proud to share that La Retraite was one of three schools in Lambeth selected to take part in a special film project supported by Lambeth Council and Chocolate Films Workshops.

Tuesday 16 September 2025 T Level Employability Programme Launch We are delighted to have launched our T Level Employability Programme in partnership with the Construction Youth Trust. This initiative is designed to equip all our T Level students with the skills, confidence, and preparation needed ahead of their 45-day Department for Education industry placement.

Saturday 13 September 2025 DofE Bronze Training On 13th September, our Year 10 and 11 students set out for their Duke of Edinburgh's Award Bronze training expedition.Despite a little rain, their determination shone through – from teamwork on the trails to cooking hearty meals together at camp. A huge well done to everyone who took part and showed resilience, cooperation, and spirit throughout the day.

Friday 18 July 2025 Sports Day 2025 Sports Day was a great success, with students taking part in a wide range of events including the long jump, high jump, track races, tug of war, three-legged race, and the egg and spoon race. The day ended with the ever-popular staff relay. We are grateful to the Sixth Form students who kindly volunteered their time to help. With warm sunshine throughout the day, the atmosphere was fantastic. Congratulations to Patience House, who have now won the Sports Day trophy for the fourth year in a row.

Friday 21 March 2025 Musical Exchange: German Choir Visits La Retraite On Friday, 21st March, we were delighted to host the choir from Gymnasium Marienberg in Neuss, Düsseldorf. Their performance was followed by a set from our own La Retraite choir, bringing students together through a shared love of music.

Wednesday 10 July 2024 Sports Day 2024 This year's Sports Day at Tooting Athletics Track was a welcome change from the rain of last year. It was a fantastic day filled with friendly competition and energetic performances. A big congratulations to Patience for their impressive third consecutive Sports Day win! Their dedication and teamwork truly shone on the track. However, the overall House Cup champions for the year are Wisdom.

Friday 29 March 2024 Sheriff's Challenge Champions - 2024 Year 12 students, once again, participated in the prestigious Sheriff’s challenge, sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Insurers. A huge congratulations to the winning team (Paris, Nyree, Insalf, Kachine, Uriel and Zachary) who emerged victorious in the final round at the Old Bailey, after competing in multiple heats against three other schools.

Wednesday 31 January 2024 'Outstanding' OFSTED grade - December 2023 Ofsted observed that our school’s steadfast commitment to fostering each pupil’s full potential is clearly reflected in our high expectations, personalised support for individual aspirations and talents, and our dedicated focus on achieving excellent outcomes in public examinations. Pupils feel ‘happy and safe’ and parents/carers favour our school’s warmth, ensuring our students become ‘confident young women’.

Monday 13 November 2023 Armistice Day - lest we forget To celebrate Armistice Day, as a school we have put on various activities to remember the millions upon millions of soldiers and civilians killed during the First World War. During the week students have been in the library creating Remembrance Day2023 bookmarks using Poppies. The school library was also a hub of celebration with poster displayed in the rooms. On the 10th November, there was a 2 minutes silence at 11am to mark Remembrance Day. The 2 minutes silence will start with "The Last Post" played by Luis (Year 12) and at the end there was a short piece "Reveille" to mark the end of the 2 minutes silence. Our CCF Navy Cadets were very busy during Remembrance week attending the Remembrance Day Service at City Hall, with the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan in attendance. Monday 16 October 2023 Celebrating Black History Month, with our Alumni Every year, during the celebration of Black History Month, we have the privilege of welcoming a group of esteemed La Retraite Alumni to our institution for a meaningful Q&A session with our students. This unique event provides an invaluable platform for these accomplished individuals to share their insights and experiences on the journey of being young, modern, and dynamic Black Christian women. In our most recent gathering, we had the honor of hosting five extraordinary women who added a touch of brilliance to our Black History Month festivities: Angel Adjei - An accomplished Product Manager within the tech industry with a passion in education. Isabel Anchebe - A distinguished Associate Director who leads the European Compliance division. Vida M. Adaah - A highly regarded Senior Associate Counsel, bringing her legal expertise to the forefront. Ranti Adeyemi - A Senior Caseworker and a proficient Professional Makeup Artist, exemplifying versatility in her career pursuits

Wednesday 11 October 2023 US Embassy Visit To Celebrate ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ in October, ten KS4 and KS5 students were invited to the US Embassy. The students took part in a Q&A session with the US Ambassador and two senior members of staff at the US Embassy. This is the second occasion that La Retraite students have had the opportunity to meet with the US Ambassador and we hope to maintain a special relationship with Ambassador Jane Hartley.
