The Library enables access to an excellent collection of books, as well as an online library, with books and subscriptions including Britannica Online, which provides relevant and trustworthy information, Image Quest with over three million images from 60 leading collections, VLE books with more than 300 electronic books, and Issues Online which gives access to hundreds of high-quality articles from a variety of different sources.

La Retraite Library OPAC
La Retraite LibraryCheck our new La Retraite Library OPAC. It is a fantastic new online resource designed to engage students, parents, teachers, and librarians in reading for pleasure. The new system uses the very latest technologies to really capture the imagination of students, linking real and virtual reading experiences to drive up literacy standards and develop core reading skills.
You can access this site from school and home. It allows you to search the catalogue and reserve books, to write or film reviews. You can also create your own reading lists and bibliographies and see the latest library news.
Search for the book you want to read, reserve it and email Mrs Fernandez, Librarian, at cfernandez@laretraite.co.uk who will deliver the books to you as soon as possible.

Britannica School Online is a safe, up-to-date and age-appropriate information resource for Middle and High School. It is an interactive learning resource for students and teachers. Access Millions of Images from the World’s Best Image Libraries!

Also available in French, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, and Welsh!

VLE Books Online Library
We are delighted to announce the launch of the VLe Platform with lots of E-Books for you to read and enjoy. Malorie Blackman and Jacqueline Wilson are just some of the authors you can find on it.
The Platform is already running and you can read the Electronic books online, download to your own device, or save it for later. If you have any difficulties, please click here to visit the VLE's 'Help' menu.
If you want to start reading e-books go to www.vlebooks.com, register with your school log-in and use the password: Library17. You can change your password once you are logged into your account. Enter 'laretraite' (one word) in the box where they ask for ID Organisation.
You also can download the free App available from App store or Google play to keep the book on your devices and read them offline. It is also available for Kindle by getting the free application Blue-fire Reader in the Kindle store.
After you download the app, in order to read books offline, you will have to create an Adobe ID - http://www.vlebooks.com/vleweb/Help/DigitalEditions - and use the same login details on all of your devices, laptop, smartphone, and tablet. And then you can have the same book you want to read in all of them.
Always ask in the library if you can’t make it work!

The library now is subscribing to Student BMJ Print + Online Resource. Printed issues are moving from monthly to termly, in-line with the academic year.

The school now has free online access to the Financial Times for staff and Sixth Form students.
The Financial Times is one of the world's leading news organisations, recognised internationally for its authority, integrity, and accuracy. It is part of Nikkei Inc., which provides a broad range of information, news, and services for the global business community.
