Enrichment

Enrichment

A broad and enviable enrichment programme complements the quality and strength of our academic offer, equipping every student with the skills, qualities, and attributes necessary for them to flourish in their professional and personal lives, be ambitious for themselves and ready to make a difference to tomorrows’ worlds.

A wealth of experiences beyond the classroom are offered to every student in year groups, empowering every student to become the best versions of themselves, and not only nurtures their individual personalities, talents, and aspirations, but challenges them to grow as leaders and innovators of the future, equipped with the qualities and traits needed, for success in the global world.

Trips and Experiences

Woven into the curriculum to complement academic studies and offer real-life learning experiences, our menu of trips are highly rewarding and introduce students to new things they may not have had the opportunity to experience before.

Music Offer

Throughout the school year our music offer incorporates concerts, services, competitions, and events, including invitations to perform at ensembles outside of school, ranging from performances in London concert Halls and cathedrals, to Sunday mass services at our local parish churches.

Students can get involved in these events by joining our various performance groups including choirs, orchestras, and bands. In addition, a music tour abroad takes place annually. Recent tours include singing in Bruges Cathedral (& Euro Disney. The department also regularly hosts trips to see concerts, operas and shows in the West End.

Students can apply to learn a musical instrument with a specialist teacher. We offer tuition in most instruments, from violin to electric guitar, trumpet to saxophone. The school will pay for a large amount of the cost of these lessons, with parents asked to pay just a small contribution.

Our music instrument teachers are all highly accomplished at performing and teaching their instruments. When they are not teaching in school, they often perform with famous artists and orchestras, so you will be learning from the very best on how to become a great performer yourself.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

At La Retraite, we ensure a wide variety of Enrichment activities are available for all students to take part in, developing students’ skills and interests, and giving them new and exciting experiences and opportunities.

Please see below for the enrichment activities and clubs offered by each department.

Geography

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD

The Duke of Edinburgh award is a multifaceted opportunity for students at La Retraite to make the most of their talents and leadership abilities by nurturing their creative side, taking on a physical challenge, and volunteering their time or expertise for the benefit of others. Through this they can gain their Physical, Skills and Volunteering sections and complete a certificate of achievement. Many students will also complete a two-day offsite expedition to gain their full Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Our extra-curricular meetings after school are designed to teach orienteering (map skills, route planning and other skills) which they will need to complete a successful Duke of Edinburgh expedition. The meetings are also helpful check-in points to ensure students are making progress on their award. Some meetings are designated for specific year groups or expedition groups, so please check the weekly bulletins and schedule below to see if your year group is expected to attend.

Meetings in E17 / E16 on specified Tuesdays / Fridays (15:10 - 15:50pm).
