Digital Leaders

Posted on: 4th Mar 2022

This year we have launched a Digital Leader scheme in school, allowing students with strong technical skills to support others around the school with their Chromebooks. Identified by their silver badge, the role shows they have good technical skills on the PC and Chromebook and are able to help others.

Each KS3 class has 2 Digital Leaders who have applied for the position, who have strong technical skills and are enthusiastic helpers.  Additionally, all of the KS4 & 5 students that have chosen Computer Science, IT or Digital T Level are Digital Leaders.

Digital LeadersSo far, the scheme has been a success. Maiyah and Macy are the Digital Leaders for their Year 7 form, and have been excellent supporting students in their class. They have used their initiative and come up with some great ideas on how they can develop the role, including to create a computing newsletter for Year 7 which is available on our school SharePoint site. We are so impressed with their enthusiasm for the role and look forward to seeing the next edition of the newsletter.

Some of our older Digital Leaders have volunteered in KS3 Computer Science lessons and supported them in lessons, as well as with our Lego Robotics club.  Here is what one of our Year 12 student Rachel has to say about their role:

“As a Digital T level student, I decided to volunteer in the lower school computer science classes for my ASDAN volunteering because I thought I would enjoy it and I'd get to help them with their work. Working with the lower school has also helped me improve my leadership skills and has boosted my confidence in being able to present and talk in front of people, it has also helped me with my communication and listening skills and being able to interact with people from different ages.

I've been helping Miss Watson and Miss Otinpong with their Year 7, 8 and 9 classes and coding club and I've also built some of the Lego robots and helped with Miss Walsh’s Robotics club. I'm very grateful that these teachers have allowed me to volunteer in their lessons as it has really helped me increase my volunteering hours and has taught me a lot of life skills.”
