Spring Informal Concert
Posted on: 7th Feb 2022The beginning of February marked the return of the Informal Concert series to the music department. This concert series is open to all levels of musical abilities from very beginner to more advanced and are designed to give students more opportunities to perform, but in a slightly less intimidating arena compared to a larger termly concert.
This term a group of students performed in the concert, although this one was a little different to previous. Due to the pandemic, it was not possible to have an audience, so all the performances were recorded. Cellists Kanyinsola and Condolezza (Year 9) played a cello duet together and we caught up with them both to find out more about the experience:
Boost my confidence
Condolezza writes, “I play the cello and I've been learning it since year 4 in primary school. The piece I played was a duet with Kanyinsola, a classmate of mine and we performed French folk song. Performing online was different than in person. I felt less pressured since I wasn't really performing in front of an audience. The benefits of learning an instrument and performing are that they give me focus and boost my confidence.”
Allowed me to broaden my knowledge
Kanyinsola writes, “Unlike the last concert, we recorded our music. At first, I found it very different since I was so used to only having one chance to perform but recording allowed me to perfect my piece! I've been playing the cello at La Retraite for three years and it has allowed me to broaden my knowledge about music and feel more confident about preforming in front of crowds.”
