Enrichment at La RetraitePosted on: 19th May 2021
Twenty students from Years 7 and 8 from La Retraite have the opportunity to start linking with the German students in the Gymnasium Marienberg in Neuss Duesseldorf, our partner school.
The school is a Catholic Girls's school and students all speak English fluently.
In order to qualify in taking part in a possible real exchange, receiving students from Germany in our school in March 2022 and travelling there to spend time in their school in July 2022, students will need to attend a club after school on Mondays, Year 8 from 2:50-3:20 pm and Year 7 from 3:20 to 3:50 pm.
Students need to start learning German, regularly write a penpal letter to their exchange partners and having lots of merits and very few consequence points.
We hope that we will be able to travel due to Coronavirus but we are hopeful that we can travel there. We can always travel virtually if not really, but we keep our fingers crossed.
Students at La Retraite are fortunate to have the opportunity to learn Mandarin for free.
Our club runs every Thursdays from 3:10 -4:10 pm and if students are very dedicated. they can also work towards gaining a GCSE certificate.
Three years ago, 3 of our students took the GCSE Mandarin exam just from having attended the club and with lots of enthusiasm and determination. If there is a will there is a way!
Mandarin can give you the opportunity to understand a different culture, even if you do not want to gain a certificate.
For more information and to be enrolled on Microsoft Teams group for the club, please e-mail email@example.com
We are running the following clubs to enable students to achieve a GCSE or A level in their mother tongue:
- GCSE Arabic after school on Wednesdays
- GCSE Portuguese classes after school Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
- A level and GCSE Italian and German
- GCSE Polish preparation
For more information about any other community languages or clubs please contact Mrs Jarrett at firstname.lastname@example.org
We cannot enter any student for GCSE or A level unless they have received a preparation from a certified teacher.
Our school is looking so more colourful and bird/insect friendly thanks to the hard work of the students who plant, weed and water our plants, shrubs and trees.
We have planted tomatoes, roses, lavender and verbena plants recently. We are keen to show you more pictures of our plants in the future to let you know how they are progressing. We also have gooseberries and lots of fruit trees like apple, prune and pear.
In particular a big thank you is for Chloe, Year 7, who has been helping a lot after school.
We always welcome more volunteers, and a club runs every Tuesday after school from 3-4pm. We also welcome donations of gardening tools and plants.
Please e-mail email@example.com if you would like to be part of the eco team.
